Social Media

The more friends a teenager has on Facebook, the more stressed they are likely to be, which may increase their future risk for depression. This is according to a new study published in the journal "Psychoneuroendocrinology". Compared with teenagers who had fewer than 300 Facebook friends, those who had more than 300 friends on the social media site had higher cortisol levels. You could only imagine someone who has 1,000 or 2,000 friends on Facebook. In conclusion, the more friends you have online, the more prone you are to having stress, anxiety, or even depression.

  1. I have seen a couple studies that suggest that Facebook can lead to depression and I believe it to be true. People generally only post the positive things in there life onto Facebook. When I look at Facebook I see pictures of vacations, trips, and interesting experiences. When you look on Facebook and are overloaded with this imagery and other people interacting with each other positively it's easy to feel your life isn't as fun and exciting. Now imagine the more friends you add on Facebook and it only increases all of this exposure to other people's positive experiences. I like Facebook, but some people get too caught up into it. Moderation in spending time on Facebook can only be good for your health.
